PLEIN AIR TUESDAYS
ALISTAIR DACEY
Ogunquit, Maine. Sept 01 -Oct 20, 2020 (9a - 12p)
8 Week Sessions: ($320) Limit 12
Learn the unique skills of outdoor, "Plein air" painting with artist Alistair Dacey each Tuesday in September and October in the picturesque coastal town of Ogunquit, Maine and throughout York county. Ogunquit is home to one of America's original art colonies and a renowned plein air painting summer school founded by influential Perkins Cove artist and teacher, Charles H. Woodbury in 1898. We will discuss Woodbury's teaching philosophy as it relates to "The art of seeing", perceptual drawing, seeing and painting. Through demonstration, discussion, critiques and side-by-side painting in the field, we will explore what it means to see the world through the eyes of an artist. Join us this summer as we carry on this great tradition, painting in the shadows of Homer, Hopper, Henri and Woodbury.

ALISTAIR DACEY BIO

The unexpected play of light, form and interpretive realism characterize my approach to painting.
I trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, Ingbretson Studios and Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy. My love of observation-based art and the painterly search for values and color are deeply informed by nineteenth century aesthetic traditions, which I applying to contemporary life and my own sensibilities and tastes. I focus most intently on the portrait and human figure, fulfilling portrait commissions and creating work for exhibition.
I co-curated the 2016 exhibition “Illuminating Tarbell, Legacy in Action” and am an active painting and drawing instructor. My work is in noteworthy collections including the St. Botolph Club and the New Hampshire State House.
